Umbro recently teamed up with English rock band Kasabian to strategically unveil their new 2010 England Away shirt live on stage in Paris. Listen to the sound of “Boooo’s” rain down upon them as the French notice what is going on on stage.
Umbro look to have gone retro, with the new kit having a red base and white cuffs. The jersey is simplistic yet a powerful homage to the many players who wore it before Rio and Rooney:
Hear Umbro’s Creative Consultant Aitor Throup talk about the technology and inspiration behind the kit that Engalnd may choose to wear in it’s World Cup debut game against the United States:
Do you know your game is tight, but feel there just isn’t enough flossing going on when you put on your present boots? Maybe you just don’t have enough black diamonds and sapphires. Chelsea’s John Terry has solved this problem by having Umbro make him a boot worth upwards of $250,000.
The boot has 84 black diamonds, 27 carats of white diamonds and 11 carats of sapphires. All together they make one of the tackiest, unattractive boots ever assembled by man. But we have to excuse him in this case, because they are for charity.
The boots will be auctioned off at the VIP launch of Rio Ferdinand’s Live The Dream Foundation this Wednesday in London.
If you are like me, you are always down to track the fashion trends in football. I love to see how designers can balance innovation with looks like Italy and Brazil, that have an expectation of classicism.
Umbro’s Senior Designer David Blanch recently penned a great retrospective covering his ten years with the company. In it he looks back on the trends that have come and gone, along with a look into the future. It’s a really good read if you have the time and want to know what goes throught the minds of the men/women that design the kit of our favorite teams.
This may be the greatest justification I have ever seen for soccer’s blessed transition away from the short short.
Warning, this clip is not for individuals fearing hairy upper thighs or gentle stroking of the outer hip… You have been warned.
Believe it or not this dude actually has an entire Youtube channel devoted to his “short short + fan” videos. You gotta see it to believe it: http://www.youtube.com/user/panthers432
