Back to England this week as we dive down below The Premiership for this edition of Vintage 10Shirt. Most American football fans remember Leicester City as the team Kasey Keller first gained notoriety, but the club has a rich history dating back to 1884. The club was originally founded under the name Leicester Fosse.
Today we will feature their 1956-61 away shirt.
Geek Info: The Foxes, as they are known, Leicester City saw one of it’s most prolific periods of football while wearing the above pictured kit. Leicester has never won a First Division title, but from 1957 to 1969 the club managed to remain in the top division of English football. In 1961, the last year this kit was used, The Foxes reached one of their two ever FA Cup finals, both of which they lost. This shirt was the first V-Neck ever employed by Leicester City, having always used either a circular or collared style previously.
Who Wore It? Arthur Rowley, John Sjoberg, Gordon Banks, Frank McClintock

Lets face it there are everyday social circumstances where your favorite team’s game jersey is not all that appropriate attire. Events like say… first dates. You don’t want her to know that you’re going to ignore her for hours at a time every weekend from the first moment she sees you, right? Instead camouflage your obsession for your favorite team by wearing a more casual style from the side you support.
Here are some everyday fashion looks that I’m going to pass along to all of you in hopes you may get some ideas in how not to scare off your next potential lady-friend.
Potential new tag line: “10Shirt- Helping Footy Folks Get Freaky Since 2009″

I know I am risking blowing my wad early here, but this is seriously the best looking Official T-Shirt out there in the EPL right now. Trust me I have looked. Usually “Official” gear is watered down and made for the average 50 year old male that has already been beaten down by his woman life. But here you have a shirt that would not look at all out of place in Bumpy Pitch’s line. Give it up for Hull City for getting this right. Now Phil Brown? That’s another matter entirely.

First off, no one has popped a collar since Kanye’s first album and secondly no one has done it right since Zack Morris. Now this look isn’t exactly my style, I tend to be more of a minimalist, but I know there is a market for it. How do I know? Because every time I smell an Abercrombie store from the sidewalk I see dudes wearing stuff just like this coming out of it. So take what you will from it, but trust me, someone right now is already getting their Barclay card out.

I know what you’re thinking, Jrodius, this is not subtle at all like you said I should be around the ladies. I know what I said. But sometimes a woman appreciates a bold man. And it takes one to pull this look off. If you dare… try it out. If you strike out, both the girl and the shirt were always out of your league.

Today we feature both the Away and Home versions of the 1984/85 Chelsea FC kit.

Geek Info: I’m sure some of you more astute Chelsea fanatics out there may take issue with the fact I don’t refer to this kit as also being used in the 1983/84 season. My reasoning is simple. While the shirt design is identical, the 1983 season was the first year Chelsea ever featured a sponsor (Gulf Air). They subsequently dropped the sponsor from the kit the following year. So because this shirt does not feature the sponsor, I am labeling it as the 19845/85 kit. The replicas shown here are very close to the originals, the biggest change being that the original kits were manufactured by Le Coq Sportif. Their recognizable rooster logo, which was embroidered over the right breast, has been removed by the replicas manufacturer for obvious reasons.
Who Wore It? John Bumstead, John Hollins, Kerry Dixon, David Speedie, Pat Nevin, Joe MacLaughlin
Captain? Colin Pates
Coach? John Hollins (Player/coach)
Accomplishments: Second Division Champions 1983/84, Sixth place in the First Division 1984/85 (Record: 20-11-11)

For the first time in our on-going segment we leave the drizzled shores of England in favor of the rain forests of Brazil. This week our Vintage 10Shirt is from one of the most storied clubs of Brazil, Sao Paulo. The kit we have chosen here is a version of the away shirt worn throughout the 1970’s.

Geek Info: The Sao Paolo away kit has stayed remarkably the same for much of it’s history. Perhaps that is due to the history behind it’s design. In it’s original founding of 1930 the club was a merger of two teams, Paulistano and Associação Atlética das Palmeiras. This shirt design is based on this fact because Paulistano’s colors were red and white, while Palmerias’ were black and white. And as luck would have the combination of all three colors also matches the colors of Sao Paulo’s state flag.
Who Wore It? Pedro Rocha, Toninho Guerreiro, Jurandir, Forlán, Sérgio. (Limiting the list to just players of the early 70’s)
Managed By: José Poy
Accomplishments: 1970 & 71 Paulista Champions, 1975 Paulista Champions

As both a Chelsea fan and a former mohawked punk myself, I am a huge fan of this new shirt from Bumpy Pitch.

From Bumpy Pitch:
“This shirt is inspired by the soccer and punk scenes of the late 1970’s in London. We collaborated with artist and London native Nick Egan to capture the feel of the time and the influence that soccer and punk music had on an entire generation. Set in the Shed End of Stamford Bridge, the graphic depicts the vibe that was unique to not only the sport and the music scene, but also to the location and a specific moment of time.”
My only question is why is it $40 for a t-shirt?
