Lost in the headlines of Landon Donovan’s debut for Everton and Clint Dempsey’s knee injury is young Stuart Holden.  In honor of the American starlet’s current trial with Bolton Wanderers, this week’s Vintage 10Shirt features the Bolton 1958 jersey.

Geek Info: In 1957 Bolton changed to a V-Neck shirt for the first time in it’s history.  This 1958 edition is a continuation of this trend, one that would continue until 1964.  This shirt was also worn during the most prolific period of Bolton’s history.  One that saw The Wanderers remain in the top flight for 29 years.  Bolton also won the FA Cup in 1958 cementing this kit’s place in their history.

Back to England this week as we dive down below The Premiership for this edition of Vintage 10Shirt.  Most American football fans remember Leicester City as the team Kasey Keller first gained notoriety, but the club has a rich history dating back to 1884.  The club was originally founded under the name Leicester Fosse.

Today we will feature their 1956-61 away shirt.

Geek Info: The Foxes, as they are known, Leicester City saw one of it’s most prolific periods of football while wearing the above pictured kit. Leicester has never won a First Division title, but from 1957 to 1969 the club managed to remain in the top division of English football.  In 1961, the last year this kit was used, The Foxes reached one of their two ever FA Cup finals, both of which they lost.  This shirt was the first V-Neck ever employed by Leicester City, having always used either a circular or collared style previously.

This week’s Vintage 10Shirt takes us out of England’s Premiership and over to Scotland’s Premier League.  Aberdeen Football Club is one of the few clubs outside of Celtic and Rangers to have real success on the greater European stage.  Today we study Aberdeen’s 1983 Cup Winner’s Cup jersey.

Geek Info: The Aberdeen team of the late 1970’s to mid 1980’s started the career of Sir Alex Ferguson.  The logo on this shirt was only used on the teams kits for seven years before changing it in favor circular crest used today.   The home kit was a red version of this shirt.  The 1983 shirt is important because it represented the pinnacle of the Ferguson years, in that the team won the Scottish Cup, the League Title and the European Cup Winner’s Cup.  The 1983 team beat the like of Bayern Munich on their way to defeat European Giants Real Madrid 2-1 in the final European final.

Geek Info: When Arsenal’s Eddie Kelly scored the equalizing goal in extra time he became the first substitute to ever score in an FA Cup Final.  With the 1971 FA Cup win, Arsenal secured it’s first ever double, as it had already won the league the week prior.

In celebration of 10Shirt’s contest currently running in partnership with SetantaUS, we are featuring a vintage jersey of a current EPL team.  You can’t win this old school look, but you can potentially win the current Tottenham 09/10 jersey by following the directions here.  OK, enough about modern times, let’s jump in the way back machine and visit the days of Don Draper, the 1960’s.  Today we feature the 1963-69 Tottenham Hotspur FC away jersey.

Geek Info: This is the first away shirt used after Tottenham’s historic achievement of being the first British team to ever win the Europena Cup Winner’s Cup.  It was changed from white to the dark look featured here as Hotspur decided to make the white jersey solely a home affair.  The 1963 kit was also the first one in Tottenham history that featured a rounded collar.  All kits prior used some combination of either a V-Neck or collar.
