This is a video that actually came out a few years back.  It was recently re-released on vimeo in the best quality I have seen yet.  It is a great short film chronicling how the game of football is being used to unite the 73 different tribes of  Zambia and educate them on the dangers of HIV/AIDS.

The film follows a player and a coach in the town of Lusaka, Zambia.  It is well worth the 6 minutes of your life it takes to watch it.  And furthermore, it is one more demonstration of why the World Cup coming to Africa means so much.  It is universal.

Lusaka Sunrise

Normally we do pretty light hearted stuff here at 10Shirt.  But this one is a bit different.

For any of you that listened to myself and Richard Farley preview Wednesday’s WCQ games on the Inside The Six podcast on our sister site WSR, this is a follow up.  We discussed the fact that Algeria claims it’s bus was attacked by Egyptian fans, including some of their players being hit by bricks.  This video would seem to verify this account.

A very sad statement for Africa leading up to the World Cup.

Algerian Players Attacked (Video)

I’m usually not a big whore for one company’s football equipment over another one, but Puma has always held a special place in my football conscience and on my feet. Most of the players I follow closely wear Puma boots and are sponsored by Puma, so I usually get a good look at what is new from their gear line and clothing line.

I came across this ad a few weeks ago and haven’t been able to get it out of my head. The ad reminds me of why I love this company and their equipment; it’s clean, not overly flashy, but still has style. Plus, the African kits the ad introduces look amazing. Check it out.

Football 4 Africa is a subsidiary of Abaana.org dedicated to helping unite Africa, especially it’s children, through soccer.  From their site:

Football4Africa uses the beautiful game to raise awareness and funds for the Children of Africa. While parent charity Abaana meets their practical needs we wanted to give the kids something fun, and the chance to enjoy life like kids in the west do. All the money raised and shirts collected go straight to those in the poorest parts of the world. Maybe your passion for football could help put a smile on a child’s face.

So you know all those old 10 Shirts you keep in your closet that remind you of a time when you were younger and thinner, maybe there are a few you could part with.  There are some kids that would love to have them.

At the Football4Africa site you can see various videos depicting people and projects they invest themselves in, but this one with a young street kid named Otto really captured my eye.
