10Shirt was one of the first sites to introduce the world the Jabulani, Adidas’ new ball for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Now we present to you two videos from Adidas on how the ball was created, constructed, and how much effort went into perfecting this ball’s flight. The first video also includes appearances by Karim Benzema and Michael Ballack, two stars who hope to have strong appearances in next summer’s tournament.
This video shows how the ball is manufactured from start to the center circle.
It’s called Jabulani and it’s here. The name comes from one of the eleven different languages of South Africa called isiZulu. It means “to celebrate”.
The new match ball uses only 8 thermally bonded 3-D panels. What does thermally bonded mean? No stitching, the panels are fused together. Adidas claims that this set up gives the ball an exceptionally stable flight.
Also the ball has 11 colors, which seems kind of tacky to me, meant to reflect 11 players in every team, the 11 official languages of South Africa and the 11 South African communities.
Earlier this week Adidas launched a massive campaign to hype the release of their much-anticipated line of 2010 World Cup jerseys. A few of the featured kits included Germany, Argentina, and Mexico. We already showed you Mexico’s jersey, but today we are going to show you Argentina’s jersey.
The 2010-2012 Argentina jersey is manufactured by Adidas and maintains the same recognizable blue and white stripe of Argentina’s most recent kits, but this year’s version has a bit more of a vintage feel. This shirt most closely resembles the legendary shirt worn by Maradona in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
The jersey will have its debut in Argentina’s next friendly against Spain.
So will Zidane’s retirement be a laughing stock, clinging desperately for relevancy like Eric Cantona’s commercials and Michael Jordan’s Hall of Fame speech? Or will he be more like Bill Clinton making mad skrill on the regular just for showing up to the party? My vote is for Clinton, but you have to be careful because the line between devotion and desperation is a thin one.
Hoping to cash in on the fact he is fresh in the memories of the football loving public, Adidas has tapped Zidane as the face of their new Predator release in Japan. From the looks of it, the follically challenged Frenchy still has pull in the land of sushi and samurai.
The Chelsea training staff are finally starting to feel the pain Chelsea supporters have felt since Ballack signed with the club. Not exactly Ronaldinho bouncing the ball off the cross bar… but just as entertaining. Someone get this to Bob Saget on the double!
