Thisweekintweets10Shirt.net will be posting a weekly digest of what we find to be the best tweets about our favorite game here in the US.  Of course there are limitations.  We can only track those people that we know about, so if you think you are spitting out footy genius on the regular and want to get noticed follow @10_Shirt and @Jrodius.  We will follow you back and see what you have to say.

Also, since we can’t see every tweet in all of twitterdom, feel free to use the #10s tag on your best stuff.  We will review everything that uses that hashtag, guaranteed.  And, as always, we recommend you follow everyone on this list in order to ensure that you will always be a part of the best US Soccer conversations happening everyday.

Author: Jrodius | Filed under: General, Tech

ThisweekintweetsIn a new segment here on 10Shirt we are going to start bringing you a weekly feature called US Soccer Twitter Digest.  Where we scan Twitter for our favorite tweets about our favorite game.  Now of course we are limited to only those people we follow, so if you think you are sending out good stuff and going unnoticed make sure you follow @10_shirt as well as @Jrodius and @FCShambles (The guys who are going to being putting this digest together each week). Yet even with three sets of eyeballs watching we are going to miss some of you.  So feel free to also use the #10s hash tag if you think what you have to say deserves being noticed.

We are going to try our best to not just post tweets with links to articles.  We are looking for points of view, originality, creativity and fun.  And of course we recommend you follow the people that appear here, as they are obviously the people we feel are helping to shape the game in our country.

S0ccket
The S0ccket ball is a new concept soccer ball that contains a battery and generator. For everyone 15 minutes of play, the ball stores enough energy to light a small LED light for up to three hours.

“Early prototypes of the ball use an inductive coil mechanism similar to the technology found in shake-to-charge flashlights. The movement of the ball forces a magnet through a metal coil that “induces” voltage in the coil to generate electricity. For each 15 minutes of play, the ball can store enough energy to illuminate a small LED light for three hours. “

Anyone else think MLS should look into adopting the S0ccket ball to help power developmental players apartments?

S0ccket Ball: The Energy-Generating Soccer Ball

Author: Trevor Hayward | Filed under: Photos, Tech

We could learn a lot about our World Cup competition from video games. Seriously. Have you ever played someone from another country online or in person? I usually play them as the United States because I think that if I can somehow beat them they’ll respect our team (Granted, I’ve probably set us back 30 years in the process). But how can we learn from our international friends a little about ourselves?

Well, I noticed a trend. Most people love their national team. If you play as a national team, they’ll play as a national team. In 2008, I played an exchange student named David from Belgium. His style was very methodical. He liked set pieces and midfield play. He was very patient – even for a video game player. My style? Overly aggressive. Playing like my hair was on fire. Scared by our lack of size at defense. I was constantly trying to keep the pressure in the Belgian zone. I scored early, I got all fired up. I totally got worked over. Why?

Midfield play. Using counterattacks and set pieces I was totally picked apart in the second half. I learned the hard way that even in video games this is important. As I looked at the final score of 4-2 I asked “how’d that happen?” and he said plainly “Americans can’t play defense and have no midfield – I just wait to counter-strike.” When I saw the Confederations Cup Final against Brazil the next year I can’t say I wasn’t surprised by what happened. This is where playing video games can help your country. If we all play enough as the USMNT we can figure out something before June. I’m sure someone out there has a style that wins for the US…right?

Let’s hope Coach Bradley is on XBOX Live.

EA
Is it April 27 yet? For the love of Tony Meola’s ponytail this day needs to come soon. According to the folks at Amazon that is the release date for the 2010 FIFA World Cup video game.

The international game has always been my favorite part of soccer. Since the USMNT dawned those infamous denim shirts back in ‘94 I’ve loved the passion of the World Cup. The FIFA World Cup series has been my favorite game consistently. It may not have the creation zone bells and whistles that the yearly FIFA series offers but I’m hoping that will change this year. Though the game play hasn’t always been as good as the yearly series (it usually feels like the game is rushed), I love having the option to try and qualify out of UEFA with the Faroe Islands. Thanks to the major upgrades across the board in online play since 2006 I’m also really excited to take the US side onto the virtual pitch against the world (for the record – I’m about as successful in online play as the United States has been in World Cup games played in Europe).

Fifa10
Let’s hope they don’t screw this game up. FIFA 10 was amazing and I’m hoping they use some momentum from the success of that game and bring it to World Cup series. I’d like to see them try and capture the atmosphere and presentation of international matches. I’m hopeful for this since that was a major part of Electronic Arts revamping of Madden 10 this past year. The feel of international soccer is like nothing else on Earth, when I’m immersed in a blue television screen glow at 3:45 in the morning I’d like my vuvuzelas blasting, my strikers scoring, and fingers sore from playing an entire CONCACAF qualifying schedule.

Another wish list item would be bringing back the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra music, like EA had for the 2002 FIFA World Cup game. They’ll never do it again – but the music definitely captured the intensity of the world stage.

Spring can’t come fast enough now.

FM10SX has been released on FMScout.com and is the first and only Mac Real Time Game Editor and Scout Utility for the incredibly popular relationship killer, Football Manager 2010. FM10SX was developed by user littleblue and is still under development and contains several bugs.

What does it do?
FM10SX is a scouting utility, allowing you to search the vast world of Football Manager 2010 for players based on a set of attributes, much faster than is possible within the game. It also functions as a Real Time Editor, allowing you to modify your save games, while you’re playing. You’ll be able to edit anything from player attributes to club finances.

10Shirt was one of the first sites to introduce the world the Jabulani, Adidas’ new ball for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Now we present to you two videos from Adidas on how the ball was created, constructed, and how much effort went into perfecting this ball’s flight. The first video also includes appearances by Karim Benzema and Michael Ballack, two stars who hope to have strong appearances in next summer’s tournament.

This video shows how the ball is manufactured from start to the center circle.

The closest I ever came to being a goalkeeper was when I tried out for the movie The Big Green (true story), but this ad makes me want to get between the sticks and see if I can stop a few shots. Seriously, these gloves look great. If they perform as good as they look, then they have to be a great set of gloves.

If you are a male, have a pulse, and own a gaming console you probably have played Guitar Hero at some point.  In fact that may be an understatement.  You have probably made the choice, many times, whether you really need to go outside today, when you are so close to getting 100% on Metallica’s “One”.  Well Umbro has decided to mix your Guitar Hero obsession with your other favorite obsession, football.

Umbro took on the challenge of wiring an entire warehouse to build, what has to be, the world’s biggest game controller.  I only have two questions:

1.  What was the creative director that thought of this high on when he pitched it?

2.  Can I shake the hand of The Suit that signed off on it?

If you would like to see the behind the scenes making of this video you can see it here.
